Harvesting Rain. Securing Harvests.

Turning smallholder farming
into a bankable
business.

MajiDepot is a 20-year warranted underground water storage and irrigation system, monitored by IoT and installed by certified local masons, that gives Kenyan smallholder farmers year-round water security and the documented income data to access agricultural finance.

Three converging water challenges.

Smallholder farmers across Kenya face compounding water pressures that no single existing solution fully addresses.

Challenge 01
Rainfall Fragmentation
Kenya's two traditional rainy seasons are compressing into shorter, more intense events with longer dry spells between them. Crops now routinely experience moisture stress at critical growth stages not because of insufficient rainfall, but because water arrives outside the crop's biological window. This is not a soil problem or a seed problem. It is a water storage problem.

Challenge 02
Groundwater Depletion
As irrigation adoption grows across Kenya, so does pressure on underground water sources. Aquifer levels across the Central Highlands, Rift Valley, and peri-urban zones are dropping faster than natural recharge allows, raising pumping depths, increasing energy costs, and eroding the long-term viability of groundwater as a reliable irrigation source.
Structural riskFalling water tables affect farmers across all income levels as aquifer depletion accelerates
Challenge 03
Storage Inefficiency
Surface water ponds lose enormous volumes to evaporation and harbour mosquitoes, algae, and waterborne contaminants. Standard surface tanks bridge short dry spells but cannot provide the year-round reliable supply needed to shift from subsistence to commercial farming. No existing solution combines underground storage, solar pumping, precision irrigation, and IoT monitoring at smallholder price points.

A timing problem
is a storage problem.

Rainfall in East Africa is not declining. It is becoming erratic. Capture rain when it falls, store it where it cannot evaporate, and deliver it when crops need it, and agricultural viability is restored regardless of what climate change does to rainfall timing. The technology has existed for decades. What is new is assembling it into an affordable, warranted, IoT-connected system at smallholder price points and structuring that system as a bankable asset that Kenyan agricultural lenders can finance.

Five modules. One integrated platform.

MajiDepot assembles proven technology into a complete, groundwater-independent, evaporation-proof, locally repairable water system with every installation connected to an intelligent network from day one and backed by a 20-year structural warranty.

Intelligence that compounds
with every new node.

Every MajiDepot installation is an IoT node from day one. As nodes grow, the platform transforms individual water systems into a distributed intelligence network generating the continuous performance data that underpins both agronomic recommendations and agricultural lending.

Built to be measurably better.

Every metric in MajiDepot's model is designed to be documentable and verifiable. From farmer payback periods to water efficiency gains, the numbers are generated by real IoT data, not projections.

A new asset class for Kenyan agricultural lending.

A warranted 20-year underground cistern with documented IoT performance data is collateral. It changes the conversation with agricultural lenders from an unsecured loan request to a structured, asset-backed financing facility. MajiDepot's Phase 2 and Phase 3 data collection is designed from the outset to generate the income documentation, repayment evidence, and asset valuation methodology that a dedicated agricultural lending facility requires. The 500-site Phase 3 target represents the threshold at which a dedicated lending product becomes viable for a major Kenyan bank.

Three phases. Evidence gated.

MajiDepot's path to commercial scale is structured as a hypothesis-testing programme. Each phase generates the specific evidence needed to validate the next. No phase begins before the previous one has produced its documented evidence base.

Phase 1 · In Progress
2026

Proof of Concept

IoT-enabled drip irrigation on a Kenyan highland farm, documenting measurable farm income uplift and proving that a surface tank provides insufficient year-round water security, establishing the evidence base for the underground cistern in Phase 2.

Phase 2 · Upcoming
2027
5 to 20 sites across Kenya

Technology Validation

Ferro-cement underground cisterns built by certified mason teams across diverse agro-ecological zones, farm sizes, and crop types, generating the multi-site, multi-season dataset that validates the commercial model and the asset-backed lending case.

Phase 3 · 2028
2028
500 pre-sold sites nationwide

Commercial Launch

Every installation confirmed and finance-approved before construction begins. Farmer repayment through bank loans secured against the cistern as a collateralisable asset, aligned to harvest cycles. Backed by institutional grant funding and a certified mason network operating independently nationwide.
